Level Design

The below is a currently ongoing series of 9 one-week team projects. For each, I operated as producer, project manager, and systems designer. I drafted all materials, assets, and level context, then created Trello projects and all tasks required for each week. I lead all team meetings and project updates. I did the majority of level grey boxing and final level reviews. All projects are published with browser-playable builds on Itch.io, with in-depth descriptions of each project.

  • The Night Rider

You are a nightrider, driving through a post-apocalyptic world, blasting music, headed towards The Lost City. As you approach, glow of your techno-headlights illuminating the way. As you move closer to the city, the wrecks of other nightriders leave smudgy black smoke trails along the path. You’re different. You’ll make it.

  • The Siege of Goodrich

You are an English soldier defending Goodrich Castle in 1216 against a Welsh invasion. The English garrison is sieged and overwhelmed by a Welsh army. This is a real battle that took place, and William Marshall had to leave a coronation in Westminster to repel the Welsh, which appear prepped to overrun the castle.

  • The Zen Garden

You are a warrior who shortly returned home to your lakeside Minka from fighting in the Onin War. You sit on the back porch, surrounding walls, gravel zen garden, small stream running through the yard. Looking out across the view, you rest your sword and helmet on the bench next to you and decide to stroll through.

  • Laser Grid

You are a robot in a test chamber - you enter into the main chamber from a hallway by pressing a button. You are subjected to a laser array that fires off periodically - the player must learn the pattern and avoid the lasers. A light and sound will brighten up to alert the player to incoming lasers for them to avoid.

  • The Stone of Destiny

You are a Scottish archaeology student raiding the vaults of the British museum to steal an artifact back - the vault was constructed by a truly monstrous member of the British aristocracy in the ‘national treasure’ universe where there are random crazy trap rooms in a modern scene. As you grab the Stone of Scone, you notice the walls have begun closing in on you. You must escape or be crushed!

  • The Dragon's Cave

You are a knight tasked with stealing a dragon egg from a nearby mountain cave. You have found the cave and entered its yawning maw. You’re met with piles of riches littering the floor, and a large mound in the center. Nestled in the center of the pile is a clutch of massive dragon eggs.
